Things that don't photograph well

Here are a few things I have noticed that rarely photograph well. Please prove me wrong...

Knees
They tend to look like two boobs peeking up over fabric or two wrinkly eyes. You can never use enough moisturiser to make them look pretty.
Feet
Feet are ugly. Yes, even yours. I have been known to take a few feet snaps but I don't really like looking at yours. Notice I softened the ugly with water. I should have thrown it through a few filters to soften the blow more but I was feeling cruel.
Baby's first potty poo/wee
What an exciting moment! You really should take a photo for their 21st but people have actually been sharing these on Facebook. Why on earth do you think any of your 'friends' want to see this? I guarantee you will lose Facebook friends and real life ones.

Armpits
I dare you do make these look good. It's IMPOSSIBLE.  Even armpit creases look bad.

Seafood Mornay
What can I say?

Penises or vaginas
They are fun and help make lovely babies but they are not photogenic it doesn't matter how drunk you are (No photo necessary).

Ponchos
I have tried. I love Ponchos but I have never managed to make them look as good in photos as I think they look in real life.

What do you have trouble taking good photos of?

PS: Obviously this was written in good nature. I am sure you take excellent photos of your knees, feet, armpits, penises, vaginas, ponchos and seafood mornay but I just suck at it.

  2. Lol must agree on all of the above! Can't think of something off the top of my head this early in the morning, but I'm sure there are plenty more :)

  3. Aw man, so you don't want to see the photo I took last week of the filled up potty? The look on his little face -is- priceless!

  4. So funny - As soon as you said knees I thought feet!! There is no reason I could ever see to take a photo of my feet, and think that it might look good.

The other thing I have trouble taking a photo of? More than one child at a time. There is really no way of getting a four year old and a one year old to smile normally and look at the camera, not do anything weird with their body or to the other child, all at the same time.

  9. I'm obvs hopelessly in love with the Welshman as he actually has really sexy feet! There's a reason "bumping uglies" is a humorous term for sex. Good gods, those bits are just not pretty!

I took lots of photos of Boyo potty training, but this was before the time of Instagram. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have shared them. Although, I have to say, I just found, in my mad spring cleaning, some adorable photos of him sitting on his potty with his baby doll sitting on a toy potty, and another one of him reading a book on the potty, with his friend reading a book on the potty next to him!

    1. No, you are wrong and your thoughts are warped by love.

I do have potty photos, but I don't share them, so I am guilty too. But I don't take photos of the inside of the potty.

  10. Yes, knees and armpits just can't look pretty, your feet look quite fine though.

    1. Thanks, my husband hates my feet so I use them as a weapon when he shits me :)

  11. Too funny, Rachel! I so HATE that Dove deodorant ad on TV where the pretty young girls are flashing their perfect armpits. Who walks around with their arms in the air anyway?!

I actually thought my feet were my best quality... until I saw them in a photo. Then I had to re-think that notion. I reckon you are spot on! :-)

  12. I have to agree whole heartedly with you. Although none of my friends are posting pictures of their child doing a crap. But if they do, I will reply with a picture of my dog doing one :)

  14. ROFLMAO ... this morning I took a photo of Miss 16 in her school uniform, first day of YEAR 12 and she said she felt all awkward having her photo taken. This from the kid who takes a BAZILLION selfies a day??!!!

  17. OMG - I am so sending that ponco pic to my friend - she has been waiting for them to come back in fashion for the last 13 years! And now I see why they have not!

A lot of things don't photograph as well as they look when you are standing there in front of them. Some times my husband will say "wow this is amazing get the camera out!" and I decline and say "just experience it".

  18. Yes to all of these! And feet are ugly, no matter how expensive your pedicure was!

I have not mastered the art of taking an outfit photo (not that my outfits are really worth taking photos of!) and so they always look weird and awkward and do nothing to ctually show the nice thing I'm wearing!

  19. Hilarious and oh so true! I hate feet. And armpits. And knees for that matter. Why would anyone want to photograph these things??

  20. Are those pits Brittney's!!!!!!!

  21. Oh my goodness... this is soooooo funny!

And I totally agree. Some things just don't need photographic evidence.

  22. You are so right! Armpits are sort of unattractive aren't they??

  23. LOL! I love it Rachel! I'll try to remember those when I'm out with my camera. ;) x

  24. Now here is something the entire nation can agree on.

  25. Guilty of the odd foot pic, but I promise to spare instagram my knees!

  26. I hate feet at the best of times, even my own are permanently clad in socks. Yes, I have to agree with all of the above :)

  29. This post cracks me up - you know how I feel about people's feet, it seems so prolific this summer. I cannot do ponchos at all. And a remarkable amount of seemingly delicious food actually looks like sick. Eugrh!
    xx

  31. Oh Rachel, you kill me! Excellent post, thank you for the laughs. I couldn't agree more, your list is SPOT ON! Knees kind of ruin the look of legs, don't they? xx
