I admit that sometimes we do need to leave the Peninsula. We are in a great position because both the city and Sunshine coast are just up the road.
We took a trip into town to have lunch and see the Henri Matisse exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA). I am not sure what I was more excited about, food or Matisse. I do love art, but food won. We went Govindas Vegetarian Restaurant, for a greedy vegetarian girl this is heaven. Then after eating a lot of food, we walked across the river to GoMA. Matisse was fantastic, my girls really enjoyed it. They loved 'The Drawing Room' where they had a life model, paper, pencils and plenty of compliments. But they loved the 'Pip & Pop, Magic Land' and went crazy for 'Yayoi Kusama, The Obliteration Room'. In the Obliteration Room they give everyone dot stickers to go crazy with. I challenge you to find a place no-one has thought of to place your dot.
Now, my girls are so inspired by Matisse all their drawings are of nudes. I hope they move onto another artist by the time school resumes.
Can't wait to go to Matisse soon, been waiting with baited breath all year. We went yesterday to everything else and had a blast. Have you been to the state library which is next door to GoMA it has an awesome kids corner for under 8's and a games corner that has life size chess and snakes and ladders and cupboards full of board games. Well worthwhile adding a visit to your next day in the city.
ReplyDeleteWow - it all looks so great I am excited for my girls. We visit every exhibition at least 2-3 times while it is open and we have been looking forward to this one for ages. Sounds perfect for art obsessed 6 1/2 and 8 year olds!
