This is a copy of what I wrote for The Best Beauty Blog.

"...I am a complete make-up minx. I can spend hours in make-up departments opening, smelling and trying on every tester. I love the scents, packaging and dreams associated with this department and I am always on the look out for something new and different. This week I hit gold while my 8yo daughter was having her hair cut at a local hair and beauty salon. My 6yo daughter and I slowly slunk over to the shiny, colourful make-up stand. Standing up right, taking centre stage of the stand was a small but powerful black box - TK's Lashes. The brochure beside this box made promises. Surely, it couldn't follow through with the promise of making lashes 300% longer. I cannot resist a challenge. I was going to test and scoff at this and I was going to use my innocent little 6 year old as my guinea pig to do it. Feeling like I was participating in an episode of Myth Busters, I opened the black box and inside were two tubes. First you use the larger gel tube to brush onto the lashes. Then you use the smaller tube to brush on the fibres, then set again with the gel brush.  Seriously, UNBELIEVABLE results. My daughter looked like the cutest little drag queen with her lovely, long lashes.
Now, I love mascara and I use it daily. For special occasions I use to get the individual lashes put on. Recently I discovered lash extensions and I love them, but can't afford to keep them permanently. The TK's Lashes are something else. They truly do make your lashes look ridiculously long, but still natural and you can wash them off. I think this is a must have in any make-up stash."

You can buy these online at www.tkslashes.com.nz. No mess, no fuss, no glue.

I did not receive payment for this product review and this is my honest opinion of the product.  I am not adverse to receiving payment, in fact I would love it but I will always be honest.

Tips and Tricks - Hair trends 2012

This is part two of Tips and Tricks for hair.  We have been talking to Beautiful You about trends for 2012.

It's important to remember that just because it's trendy it doesn't mean you should have it. When considering a new colour it is important to take into account your skin tone and eye colour, and when considering a cut think about your face shape, hair type and styling time.

COLOURS
Ombre colour was huge in 2011 and will remain big for 2012 but you'll be seeing bolder choices of colour.

Another big trend for this year is Grey hair...yes it's true, grey is in. Don't be mistaken and assume this trend is only for the over fifties, in fact it's the complete opposite. Kelly Osbourne from Fashion Police has been flaunting this colour. She talked about her colour in a recent interview "...I've always wanted to be young and have grey hair....". Kate Moss has also been seen with grey. She had her blonde hair highlighted with contrasting grey streaks. Highlights and lowlights of white and grey will be the biggest (and possibly most innovative) hair colour trend of 2012. I might need to be convinced but this trend is growing on me.
Blondes remain popular with the blurring of darker roots out to a sunkissed light ends, think Giselle. Blondes also will have highlights of creamy vanilla blonde with shades of honey and cinnamon give a softer option.
Brunettes are cool this year with hints of violet and blues or they can have more natural highlights of toffees and caramels for a lighter option.

Redheads are bright and brighter in 2012. Thank you Christina Hendricks from Mad Men and the Easy A girl, Emma Stone.

Rainbow styling, pastel pinks, lilacs and teals and jewel tones add options to any style. However the biggest trend is definitely pink thanks to Katy Perry.

CUTS
Short
The modern bob is back along with curly or afro hair. Also, go for textured uneven cuts, a modern version of the 90's asymmetrical do. Put away your straightener and release your natural curls or waves.  If you don't have them, you can create some yourself. Another big look is the Wet look, like Australian actor Rachel Taylor, she has rocked this on the red carpet a few times recently.
Medium
Retro faux bob, wet look buns, piled up and pinned. Also, the short fringe is making a comeback, I think it has something to do with "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" trilogy. But beware, the short fringe is tricky to pull off.

Long
Centre parts, long and bouncy, home made curls or waves (as mentioned here in our last style section), french twist, looped under ponytails, beehive bouffant hair and side pinned waves.
ACCESSORIES
These are huge, head bands, flowers clips, feathers or even pin necklaces in your hair. Combine them with braids and twists.

Also, remember to have fun. Hair will grow back, make 2012 the year of fun and adventure.

I would like to give a big thank you to Toni Hilton from Beautiful you for your time and help with our hair articles.
