Mermaid Tales

Stompy and Mimi have been begging me to make them some mermaid costumes. They think I can do anything (I really should stop telling them that I can).

In their vision, I make a wonderful costume and they look and swim like like real mermaids. This is a pretty tough brief to meet.
Off we go to a local haberdashery.
Once again I rely on my natural instincts. No patterns, no research and no plans...
Fold fabric into 4, have your child lie down on the edge and draw the shape. I decided to go for a full body suit because this avoided needing waist bands or elastic.
Sew along edges and then get someone to try it on. The fins didn't look exactly like my vision but at least this mermaid can still wear shoes when she walks on land.
The other girl decided she didn't want a mermaid costume after all.

Mod Podge Botch Job

I had morning tea with some lovely local bloggers. These ladies know their stuff and they were talking about something called 'Mod Podge'. I asked was it was and they happily told me all about it.

I started to obsess on getting my hands on some. I started to obsess on what awesome wearable art I could create. I was imagining a world of crafty awesomeness opening up in my near future. A friend heard of my obsession and kindly gave me some of her leftover Mod Podge. It was only a little bit and I had grand plans but it was a start.
I found a Witchery bracelet I hadn't worn for a least a week and a scarf for about the same period. They both had to be sacrifice for art. I was on a mission.
I guessed the exact measurements. An artist doesn't have time for rulers or markers.
I grabbed a paint brush and stirred the Mod Podge (the brush was another sacrifice)...
 wrapped and podged the bracelet...
...and then tossed the ugly and unwearable art bracelet in the trash.
I probably should put a little more thought into Mod podge before I sacrifice anything else.

Animal Print and Faux Fur

I love animal prints and I love fur, throw them together and I will love them even more. Yes, I am that person.  Today I decided that my Witchery Snake print cardigan was missing something. So I added a fur collar.
I found an unused jacket and took off the faux fur collar....
pinned the collar onto the cardigan and used needle and thread to attach....
then stood outside in the rain to take photos.
What do you think, yay or nay?

PS: I can't help but wonder if I just managed to destroy 2 perfectly good items.
