Exercise Motivation

I am finding it hard to find time to exercise at the moment. I know winter will be over soon and when I break out my summer dress I will not be happy with myself. I knew it was time to have a good look at myself and find some motivation.  A few things I realised:

1. It wasn't about finding time, it was about re-prioritising and making sure exercise was near the top of the list;
2. I have to re-evaluate my goals. I had long term goals, now I have smaller weekly goals.
3. Inform my family about my new routine. I need them to be on board.
4. I had to find a new enjoyable exercise to mix it up. Cycling here I come.
5. Buy some new workout wear. I know this sounds like an excuse to shop (and maybe it is) but shiny new clothes really do make me want to exercise. I love these pieces from Lululemon and the Asics running shoes will make me push myself that extra kilometre.

What are you tips for getting back into exercise?

  1. Oh my goodness, I want those shoes! I need some new workout gear too. And mixing it up is a key - I'm doing Zumba tonight and will run tomorrow, then might do a home workout with some strength stuff thrown in.

    And then just DO IT! Summer isn't far away ;)

  2. I read something in 'Prevention' magazine just recently which quoted a percentage (ie. we're 25% more likely to exercise if we have new exercise gear... - that might not be the figure as I can't quite recall).

    Small weekly goals sound great. I was in a routine (I go to a gym near/at my workplace) but lately I've had some ailments so haven't been able to attend my usual classes and I haven't done a good job of Plan B. So... I need to focus more on that!

    1. I am glad I have figures to back up my new gym clothes shopping :) It's hard when you have something physically that ruins your plans. Good luck with getting back into plan B. Rachel x

  4. I am so keen to get back into running... I am about 4 months behind my goal {which doesn't sound like much - but I have had enough!} I don't need motivation - I need to be well! I have had some kind of illness pretty much all year and I have had enough! I am at the point now {recovering from the flu} where I am thinking I am just going to run regardless of my health - I just need to feel strong and healthy again!

    Sorry to comment bomb... had to get it off my chest!

    1. No, wait until you are healthy else you will set yourself back even further. Get healthy then start running again. I know it's hard to wait though. Rachel x

  5. Just like buying pretty new stationery helps me work better, nice exercise clothes totally do the same and make me want to work out! After exercising I always feel fresh and energised, so I try and motivate myself by telling myself that if I want to feel that way, I have to exercise! :)

  6. Thank you Rachel, I really needed this today. I am terrible at exercise motivation when I really should just get out and do it! I do love purchasing new work out clothes, such a fantastic reward X

  7. I had to just make myself, and visualising the end result helps too. My husband is super encouraging and supportive too, being a fitnes freak himself so he gets me moving on the weekends.
