Hip hip Hooray!

We have fallen into a birthday tradition in my family. I am not sure how it happened or when, but my daughters (6 & 8yrs) and my sister's daughters, (3 & 17yrs, my lovely nieces) expect a McDonald's breakfast whenever one of us have a birthday. This tradition is only for the four cousins, my sister or my birthday. We usually meet at 7.30am to swap presents, hash browns, cuddles and giggles.  No husband has ever tagged along.

Had we have known that these girls would latch onto the idea, we may have started with the very first birthday breakfast somewhere a little fancier and healthier. But we didn't and we can't travel back in time. The exciting thing is now picking out of our choices of Maccas. We use to just hit Redcliffe, now we have Clontarf and sometimes Northlakes. We wouldn't go to Kippa Ring or Deception Bay for our birthday breakfasts. These just don't scream 'Happy Birthday and I hope you have an awesome day' to me.

How great is Ronald to give us sooooo many choices of venue in such a small area. But, he has been a little slack, there isn't one in Scarborough, Newport or Rothwell yet. Maybe next year.

This morning it's my turn to be celebrated, Woohoo. I look forward to smelling like McDonald's grease all day.

Burnt Orange

I was talking to a well travelled couple visiting from Darwin. They had breakfast at Burnt Orange the day before and raved about it.  In fact, they said "..it was hands down the best breakfast....ever". Wow, what a review!

I had been to Burnt Orange for coffee a few times and the coffee was very nice but it was time to take our relationship to the next level. So, the next morning off we skipped to breakfast. By this time I had extremely high expectations. This is a very cute cafe and has a lovely book nook, filled with books, games and magazines. You are encourage to relax, enjoy your food or coffee and linger. I love that you don't feel rushed.

The breakfast was a little slow coming out. I probably wouldn't have noticed it at all but little Miss 6 & 8 reminded me every 2 minutes of their growing hunger holes. They made smaller versions of the meals for the girls and all the meals were beautifully presented. I think the food was nice and we all cleaned our plates. I won't go as far as saying it was the best ever, but I will say it's in my top 5 on the Peninsula.

Mon Komo

I really, really loved the Fish Bowl in the old Seabrae Hotel.  Now, in it's place stands a proud, shiny new hotel.  I was prepared to stand against change and stomp my gorgeous, heeled feet and not ever go there.  Lucky, I grew up and am now an open-minded, accepting of change and grown up woman.

The new Mon Komo Hotel is gorgeous, sophisticated and classy. You feel like you are on holiday when you walk in. The design is Caribbean influenced and is light and airy. The first things I noticed were the water features and then the amazing lighting. I want the lighting in my house. We went there for breakfast and I am glad we were the first to arrive. The restaurant filled up quickly. The coffee was good and the breakfast was nice. I could have happily sat, drank coffee and read the paper for the entire morning in this relaxing environment.

I think I could also happily drink cocktails all evening in this environment. I think it's time to organise a girls night out to sample a selection.  Who's up for it?
This would be awesome in my entrance.
This usually comes with salmon on top which was removed and missed out on it's 5 minutes of fame.

Breakfast at Reef Point Cafe

Anyone who loves a long, leisurely breakfast must stop by here. Mid-week is great but Sundays are excellent. They have tables and chairs set up outside under trees, so you can bring the hairy members of your family (I mean dogs, but husbands are welcome too and they are allowed to sit inside). This gem is hidden behind the Scarborough Caravan Park and is on the beach. We managed to grab a table, but I would recommend booking because they are so popular. They serve a delicious breakfast and sell the paper. On the weekends, they also have a band.

This is a great place for people watching. Bike riders, runners and dog walkers go past in a happy, spontaneous parade, and then the skydivers land right in-front on the beach.

Another reason we are so lucky to live on the Peninsula!
