Why I am glad my treadmill broke...

I love my treadmill. We have a great routine that involves a lot of multi-tasking and running. I could put on a load of washing, or start dinner preparations and jump on the treadmill to review a movie until it was time to move the washing around or toss another vegetable in the soup. It meant I could always find time to exercise but the rest of my world didn't stop.

Then it had a blow out.

While I am waiting to fix it, I had to go out of my way to exercise. I had to schedule around children. For a creature of habit, this was hell.

But I took Lola, my permanent furry fixture...
..for a run along the waterfront. The temperature was perfect, there was a slight breeze and the air was salty (and a little seaweedy)
...I rediscovered the beauty of nature.

I'd still prefer the convenience of my tready but the outdoors is pretty amazing too.

  1. I can't do treadmills. I don't know why? I wish I could! Because the whole having to get outside thing does make it harder to get out and just do it. Maybe it's because with a treadmill it's too easy for me to just stop after 5 minutes? Whereas if I go to the beach I am a bit more motivated/inspired to go for 30? I don't know, but glad you got outdoors! And hope your tready is fixed soon as it sounds much more convenient.

    1. I do know what you mean. When you are at home you can stop at anytime, when you are out, you still have to turn around and run home. Rachel x

  2. I prefer the outdoors but I just can't stand to exercise in humidity or sunlight. I usually go out at night. If I can peel myself from the couch!

  3. I much prefer to run outside but I don't have small people to look after that makes scheduling this difficult. Rachel you are right ... outside there are so many amazing things to look at. Where I run - these can change every day. Hope your treadie is back in action soon but I bet Lola was very happy to go for a run with you!

  5. I'm thinking of getting a recumbent bike or a spinning bike. This changed my mind...

    1. I'm looking at getting a stand for my bike, then I can ride inside too. It'll good for really hot days or rainy days. Then I can put on the air con and ride in style :)

  6. We just bought a tready second hand. In winter we have days and days and days of wintery rainy windy cold weather and my exercise always goes out the window. I've only used it a couple of times so far, after Charlotte has gone to sleep, but I like the way you work it into your day! Honestly though, how nice is it to breath in the fresh air?? Thanks so much for linking up with Fitness Friday xx

    1. The fresh air is great, but not always possible. Air con can be pretty awesome too :)

  7. I too have a treadmill & I love the convenience of it but you can't beat the great outdoors as far as entertainment and motivation goes.
Of course our fur babies also prefer it!

  8. I'm the same way, I have such a hard time working out if I can't use my treadmill as a go-to! However, I have two little fur babies, and they absolutely love it when I decide to take them out. I have done some experimenting with trying to get them to work out on the treadmill to make it easier for us all, but for them, nothing can even come close to the joy they get when they know it's time for an outside workout!
