LOL movie review with a give way valued at $200

This movie is a remake of a French movie by the same name. It's a coming of age/love triangle/teen angst/drama movie. I think it's fine for what it is. It's not going to change your world or inspire you to start writing fan fiction but it will keep you entertained for 1.5 hours.

Miley Cyrus is the lead and does a fine job. I think she is quite charismatic on screen. Demi Moore is her mum. I am not afraid to admit that I like Demi Moore. I like her voice, it's so sexy and husky. I want a sexy, husky voice but it would probably sound more drag queeny on me.

The movie touches on teenage sex and drugs so I would recommend this movie for older kids, maybe 14+. The rating is M. I guess it's like Gilmore Girls dirtied up.

The good bits

  • The mother/daughter dynamic. They were very close and believable. I think Demi and Miley probably really like each other in real life
  • Demi's voice (pass me the whisky and smokes)
  • Fisher Stephens. I just like him. He is one of those people I call strangely attractive. I wish he had more than 5 minutes screen time
  • Miley Cyrus seemed like she was playing herself. She must be a great actress or she really was just being herself

The bad bits

  • It seemed like a little stray vaseline might have got on lens when they were filming Demi.
  • I thought Demi's love interest seemed a little young. At 34 year old Jay Hernandaz might even be too young for me
  • I also don't think the mother would hop on the back of a motor bike 2 minutes after meeting someone for the first time. What kind of message is this giving the young and impressional teens watching this movie?
  • The chicken fondling scene was not necessary
  • Ashley Greene's make up

Magic Mike and a DVD giveaway

I am not interested in strippers of any kind. I have had many opportunities to appreciate their work but have always managed to avoid them. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate attractive males and envy gorgeous females but I don't find dry humping, nude strangers attractive.
I still chose to review Magic Mike. I guess I was swayed by the never-ending, breathless comments I had been hearing. Plus, it would be in the privacy of my own home and I could blame it on doing it for work. What I didn't except that my Mother-in-law would visit at the same time and we would watch it together. #awkward

If you don't already know the story, a male stripper called 'Magic Mike' (Channing Tatum) introduces a younger male, newly renamed 'The Kid' (Alex Pettyfer), to the world of stripping. That world is also inhabited by people called Dallas (Matthew McConoughey), Tarzan and Big D***k Ritchie.

There is also the requisite love interest.

The good bits
  • The bodies are good and they can move. Channing Tatum is a skilful dancer
  • I always enjoy Matthew McConaughey (I just never expected to see him bending over in front of a camera while wearing a tasseled g-string
  • I always enjoy looking at Joe Manganiello. He will alway be Alcide to me (that's a True Blood reference)
  • I found Tarzan surprising sexy. He was hiding in the back a lot and he couldn't dance at all
The bad bits
  • There is a lot of swearing. I found it really unnecessary and distracting. Take out 90% of it and it would have been better. I must be a real prude
  • There was a lot of floor humping. Am I the only person that doesn't find that sexy?
Over all, I enjoyed the movie and I know many, many other women will appreciate it too.

My Mother-in-law thought it was soft porn but managed to sit through it all.

My new obsession and a "Call the Midwife" giveaway worth $120

Call the Midwife is my new obsession. I had a big gaping whole left by Downton Abbey and Upstairs Downstairs. I was lost and empty, then I discovered this series.  It is amazing!

Call the Midwife is the highest rating drama series on BCC1 in the last 10 years and I can see why. Jenny Lee is the lead and she plays a new midwife. It's set in poverty stricken London's East end in the 1950s. It's so interesting to see how times have changed.

Glass enemas, pregnant ladies bawling, loopy cake stealing nun, and that is just the first episode.

My husband walked passed me watching it and made some sort of remark about 'obviously it's only for the ladies'. Get this....he didn't walk away and he couldn't stop watching it.

GIVE AWAY!!
Call the Midwife is released on DVD on 10 October RRP $39.95 and thanks to Roadshow Entertainment I have three sets to giveaway!! All you have to do to enter is:
  1. Leave a comment either here or on facebook telling me why you would like to win a copy of this series. The three most interesting comments will win.
  2. Enter prior to 6am on 16 October 2012.
If you would like to 'like' Redcliffe Style on Facebook that would be great but it's not an entry requirement.

Call the Midwife is available to own on DVD from 10 October 2012.
The second series is currently in production.

W.E review and DVD giveaway

When I was offered the opportunity to review and host a giveaway for Roadshow on the movie W.E. I wasn't really sure. I knew it was directed by Madonna and this automatic placed it in my "eerrr, I don't know if I want to see it" pile.

I ended up watching it and was completely surprised. I would never had guessed that Madonna would be capable of the gorgeous, simplicity of this movie. Abbie Cornish is mesmerising on screen. I loved her never ending supply of simple, classic black and white outfits. In fact, I may or may not have worn black and white and wandered dreamily through museums for a few days after watching this movie.

This also started off my new obsession with wanting to know everything about Wallis Simpson, King Edwards and their love affair. Ask me anything :)
