W.E review and DVD giveaway

When I was offered the opportunity to review and host a giveaway for Roadshow on the movie W.E. I wasn't really sure. I knew it was directed by Madonna and this automatic placed it in my "eerrr, I don't know if I want to see it" pile.

I ended up watching it and was completely surprised. I would never had guessed that Madonna would be capable of the gorgeous, simplicity of this movie. Abbie Cornish is mesmerising on screen. I loved her never ending supply of simple, classic black and white outfits. In fact, I may or may not have worn black and white and wandered dreamily through museums for a few days after watching this movie.

This also started off my new obsession with wanting to know everything about Wallis Simpson, King Edwards and their love affair. Ask me anything :)

  1. I'm a complete Anglophile and history buff and absolutely love this fascinating real life saga. I think it is one of the biggest love stories and one of the biggest tragedies of our time. It also enabled Bertie to be thrust into the limelight with his reluctant queen, who totally won over a very tough audience by battling the Blitz with the rest of London.

I have to admit that the Madonna factor did put me off a little. I think Wallis Simpson might be the original Voguer! ;)

  4. Sounds like a great movie!!! Not sure the husband would want to watch it, so I would love to win, because I can send him to his computer room and enjoy some alone time on the couch!! :) win/win in my book!

  5. Is it wrong that I would like to win a copy of this DVD so that I can ohhh and ahhhh over the outfits? Hope not, because I would really like to do that. I am also keen to see Madonna do something with "gorgeous simplicity"!!

  6. I would love to check this out on DVD. I am so sick of rubbish movies - something so simple - raw - honest and very REAL is definitely my cup o tea.. If there is some fashion inspiration in there that's a mighty plus. I too want to frolic around a museum wearing black and white... can I.. please ?

  7. I haven't seen a decent movie in living memory. Surely that is enough of a reason?

Also - loving the new look!

  8. I love Abbie Cornish. I think she's going to go even further in her career (especially since she dumped that dufus Ryan Phillipe). I would love a copy of this movie to see Abbie but to also see that Madonna can actually direct. I always love a nice surprise :)

  9. Madonna, director, not sure.
History was not my strong suit at school...all that reading and not many pictures had my mind wandering off. This will be the perfect visual education my brain needs.
    Nice new header.....see we noticed.;-)

  10. Ah yes, I've heard a bit about this movie and would love to see it. "The King's Speech" gave a little taste for Wallis Simpson, and I'd love to see more.

  11. I haven't heard of this movie but the story of Wallis Simpson and her king is enthralling and extraordinary. Yay for wearing back and white and dreamily wandering through museums afterwards!!!

  14. The cover looks very inviting (I adore a good chick flick) and it's something my hubby wouldn't watch, which means I could have some time to myself. I need it. The house has been crazy busy and I haven't been well. If only I could hook a tv up infront of a bath tub. Heaven!

  17. I love his quote, when asked about when they fight in their marriage "Of course, I do have a slight advantage over the rest of you. It helps in a pinch to be able to remind your bride that you gave up a throne for her." Would love to see it, to see how the most hated woman in England (at the time) is portrayed.

  18. In all honesty I'd just love to see if it's as much of a screw up as the critics say. As much as I love Madonna (we all have a soft spot even if we won't admit it!) her work recently hasn't been of her best standards

  19. All the movies we've been getting lately have been about super heroes - would love a bit of drama instead :D

  20. Miss Six asked me to read her library book to her the other night. It was titled 'The English Roses' and the author was Madonna. Yes it was the same Madonna of singing fame and director of this movie. The picture book Miss Six had me read was surprisingly good, so I'd certainly be interested in watching this movie to see how it rates. And I'd love to watch Abbie Cornish on screen, with settings around my home town of London.
