5 Things I have learned about blogging

I know there has been a little negativity in the Aussie blogging world. I don't know if I walk around in a happy bubble with blinkers and rose coloured glasses on but I just don't see it. My experience of the Aussie blogging world has been great:
  1. I have had the opportunity to met some fantastic people. The 'big guns' are as friendly and kind in person as they are on-line. The ones I have met in real life deserve all they have achieved. I find it inspiring to know that if they can do it, then maybe with hard work I can do something too.
  2. Don't be stingy with your knowledge. Nikki from Styling You is the most generous person with her blogging knowledge and her generosity has had a huge affect on me.
  3. On-line friends can become wonderful real life friends.
  4. Everything on every subject has already been written. So, write whatever you want to write. Use your voice and your ideas. When I get an idea, I just write it. I don't ever google or read up on it because I want to know that it's completely me in that post. If you are inspired by someone, mention them and link back. Don't copy.
  5. If you don't know something, ask. People are happy share and point you in the right direction.
What about you? Has blogging been a positive experience for you?

  2. love this Rachel! I think everyone's experiences with blogging are different and as with life - you get out of it what you put in! I'm having a great time getting to know more bloggers and hope one day I'll be able to meet more in person, too!

  3. Yes I'm totally into this blogging this - just a great outlet and means I moan less to my friends! A great outlet. The only thing holding me back is my lack of behind the scenes, html knowledge, might have to try a course. :)

  4. Yep blogging has been totally positive for me, I don't know where I would be without it. Looking forward to meeting some of the big guns one day, actually just looking forward to meeting any bloggers!

  5. Great post Rachel. I read a fabulous piece on Jeff Goins website about having the courage to approach people you admire and connect with them, instead of waiting to be 'found.' I took his advice and contacted my blog hero and heard back from her with really positive feedback a couple of days later! Since then my readership has tripled and I got the confidence boost I needed. I think the Aussie blogging community is fantastic!

  8. I love blogging and reading others blogs! And I must be in my little bubble because I didn't realise there was any negative feelings towards blogging! Maybe because I like to keep myself in my own little world!!

  10. I love to blog and for the most part, people have been amazing! There are a few "big bloggers" as I call them, who have been nothing but supportive and generous with their knowledge.

  11. I prefer to focus on the positive side of blogging, so for me it is all wonderful. Have met some great mates (yourself included) thorough blogging. The thing I think I have mainly learnt to be yourself. Xx

  13. So far, it has been a wonderful experience for me. I really agree with number 4. Sometimes, I want to write about something and I think everyone has already talked about that. But I do it anyway with my voice and my experience.

  14. Having been witness to a particularly nasty blogging plagiarism spat this week, point 4 really resonated with me. I've been thinking about it a lot!
This list is short, sweet, wise and to the point, which is why I like it so much.

  16. Yep - I love blogging too! I've 'met' some great people, and had heaps of encouragement and support from all over. I know there are people who have negative experiences, and I think you have to let that stuff go.

  17. Blogging has indeed been a positive experience for me (aside from the quietest early days when I wondered what on Earth I was doing). I might have blinkers on too, (helped by the fact that I moderate comments and they are all with email addy...) as not a single bad thing has come my way to date and I seem to miss most dramas. But then, they do say you've made it when it does happen, so you can look at it that way too!

I feel like i have a second family with my social media friends :-) I agree, write what you think/feel because thats what people are really after as they have come to your blog for a reason!
