How to fake happy when you feel like sh*&

We all have those down days. It's normal and healthy. But to be able to fake happy and pull it off is a special skill. It's like the Stepford wife armour.  Don't let them know how bad you are feeling, push those feelings deep, deep down and put a smile on your face. It might not be healthy but it's how I roll. Denial, denial, denial.
First, pop a Berocca. This is like sweet, sunshine in a glass.

Next, concealer for the dark circles from the sleepless nights but be careful not to use too much else it will fall into the wrinkles created by all your worrying

Blush is a must. This will make you look healthy and alive. A gorgeous, artificial glow of good health.

Mascara to open those puffy eyes.

A spritz of perfume to cloak the smell of despair.

A bright outfit. The more colour the better but not too many patterns or you'll start to look unhinged.

And smile, because the whole world smiles with you when you fake smile at it.

Usually by this stage I am feeling better. If I'm still feeling low, then I throw down some money on a sexy frock and lingerie then go out to dinner with my man, or phone a girlfriend for a wine & whine delivery.

How do you put it together on one of those days?

  1. I am a silver lining girl - always looking for the positive, even when it is really, really obscured!

For me, pushing it down resulted in anxiety, but sharing how I feel with all and sundry makes me even more anxious! So I have learned some coping strategies for those days when you just can't even spot a glimmer, let alone a silver lining.

I call it my Smile and Nod policy. Smile and Nod and keep moving!

Blush is a MUST. Nothing fakes prettiness and a happy glow more than a prettily flushed cheek. :)

I'm too far away for the wine delivery, but I'm very good at the whine reception - just let me know xxx

  4. look unhinged...love that. I refer to it as crazylady behaviour. I am quite possibly the only person on the planet who has been ushered through security (around the metal detector, not through it) for crazylady behaviour. Shrieking at wayward toddler after 9 hours into a 39 hour flight (transits included obviously). Must remember not to wear patterns when travelling...

  6. This post is how I manage too, a smile, research has shown to impact on you as it generates positive feedback, the make up tips, totally, lippy is my way to improve on a shit day/feeling , a little chocolate/wine/cheese or all three! Fave perfume, yes and the thing I find the best is wearing something red or hot pink, always get lots of compliments and that's gotta be a good thing when glum!

  7. It's how I roll too. Fake it till you make it.
LOL. "smile, because the whole world smiles with you when you fake smile at it".
And if you fake smile for long enough your muscle memory actually stirs up your endorphins and other happy chemicals which then get all happy dancey and before you know the smile is no longer fake.

  18. I try to live in denial on those days too Rachel - normally I can get myself back into a decent mood by the end of the day. Don't they say, "fake it till you make it?"
