Augghh, My ears!!!

You might remember that I have been getting singing lessons. I initially started because I wanted to step out of my comfort zone, try something new and improve something I am terrible at. For the last few months I have been turning up weekly to spend 30 minutes with the wonderful and patient Melissa from Diva Voice Studios in Scarborough. To start with I was terrified and embarrassed but I feel a bit better now and am really enjoying the lessons.

I have voice warm ups and three songs I need to practice each day. I am usually pretty good with the practicing, I'll do it in the car (loudly) and at home when my husband isn't about. Today I decided to try something new, I put my songs on the computer and used the voice recorder on my iPhone to record what I was doing. I thought this may help me see where I am going wrong. Where I should be higher or lower or steadier. I played back my special mix and I seriously wanted to rip my ears off, and this is the improved version of my singing!! I am so happy I didn't attempt this recording any earlier.

My daughters where really encouraging and told me I sounded just like him - ahh, girls...I was meant to sound like a woman. When I told them wanted to rip my ears off and they suggested I remove my tongue instead, they feel it's unfair to punish the ears when wasn't their fault.

  1. You are so funny, I'm sure you aren't that bad! No one likes the sound of their own voice. You should hear me murder 'twinkle twinkle' every night, I pretend I am Kasey Chambers. I'm sure the kids go to sleep just to not listen anymore :)

  2. I don't think anyone can sing 'Twinkle Twinkle' well. But anything that forces kids to close their eyes and pretend to be asleep is good.

  3. I love your self portrait. You may never be a paid artist, but you make me laugh. Sam
