Would you let your young daughter wear these?

Today I took my daughter shopping at Westfield Northlakes. While we were in Big W she came across a pair of shoes she completely fell in love with. I can understand the fast and intense love you get when you find the perfect shoe and because of this I will sometimes cave in. These shoes were only $25 and would keep her lovely, perfect feet warm in winter. They were also a great and practical colour for mixing into her wardrobe.

My lovely 6 year old daughter had fallen in love with a pair of wedged desert boots and I am not talking about a little appropriate child height wedge. My 17 old niece wouldn't have been able to walk in these (sorry Mariah, but it's true), even my sister would have struggled (also true). These child sized 13 boot had a heel height around 4cm. My daughter would be lucky to be 110cm tall. So, if I mentally recalculate this heel height for my height of 170cm (well 169cm) it would be about 6-7cm high heel on me.
Seriously, I wonder who decided this was an excellent idea for little girls?
Would you let your young daughter wear these?

PS: I didn't buy these and would never. Shocked that Big W would even be selling them.

  1. Personally, no I wouldn't let my girls wear them. I don't know why a child would need to wear shoes that high! (And I doubt that my girls would be able to walk in them!)

  2. Hi Debbie, I couldn't believe them when I saw them. I can't imagine anyone would buy them for their littlies. I did look for my size though. Lol. Rachel x

  3. A nice looking shoe, I wouldn't mind for myself. But there is no possible way my daughter would ever be having shoes like that bought for her.

  4. I completely agree with you Trudie. Cute shoe, just not for a 6 year old. :) Rx

  5. Not only was the style and height inappropriate, who would buy such cheap crap for precious developing little feet. It's bad enough when adults buy rubbish footwear like this. I'm just saying.

  7. Good decision not to buy them. I can tell you children grow up too quickly. They don't need to be 'pre-adults'. That goes for lots of other things these days too. Also I don't want my nieces, grandchildren dwarfing me! Love your blog. .... Andrea

  8. Hi Andrea, I am sure children do grow up too quickly. I don't think you need to worry about being dwarfed by nieces or anyone else. I am sure on the inside you are as tall as a super model. Rachel x

  9. No, I would not! I don't want to sound all Bah-Humbug but seriously, do the people who design the Bratz Doll range have a deal going with the chains for girls fashion? It's not right.
    Rant over :)

  10. Haha Mrs BC, my girls aren't allowed to have Brats dolls. Seriously, you don't want your kid to be a brat why would you let them play with something that promotes it. I like your ranting, feel free to rant anytime. Rx

  11. I am SO over the whole high high heels thing, even for adults. I mean seriously - who wears them? And what's the point of wearing a shoe you can only stand for maximum 30 minutes in one go?

They ARE cute shoes - but you're right, the wedge needs to be a whole lot lower for a girl who is going to want to run & jump & play. I remember being a youngster in the 70's and begging my mum for a pair of platform soled sandals. I loved them but they were so annoying to wear when I was running around and playing!!!
